One Day Open at Kelling 20th November 2024 by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Widdowson. We are so lucky as a Club to be allowed to hold our trial on such a lovely venue and we thank Hayley Robertson and Chris Hill who were so helpful. Our Judges for the day were Phil Highfield, Phil Parkins, Peter Abbs (who very kindly stepped in at the last moment as Geoff Dobb came down with the flue) and Lee Hayman. I thank them very much as they must have been chilled to the bones that day. Steward of the Beat was Chris Hill who managed to put on a very testing trial on a freezing day including a snow blizzard. The guns shot incredibly well considering the conditions. I don’t know how they managed to shoot so accurately when they had horizonal snow blowing in their faces at times. The dogs struggled as well as you can imagine, the handlers sometimes could not see their dogs working, because of the tall game cover and also the snowy conditions. We stopped for a quick field lunch and a bit of a warm up then moved away to do a drive over water to end the day. The helpers I thank as they volunteer for our Club in the most cheerful way, we could not run trials without them. Gitte as always provided some well needed hot soup and rolls at lunch time, thank you and of course to Ian Crompton our Chairman who oversees us all. The competitors, although they were also frozen to the bone, seemed to take the weather in their stride!!! We thank Skinners who have sponsored us from the very start of the Club. The winner of the MacFarlane Cup : Shane King with Witchambrook Thatcher The NGC members trophy for guns choice. COM and winner of Highest placed Golden Retriever, Bembrook Salve : Keith Bedford with Angeni Chorus At Kayteens . Next Trial, Novice 10th December at Letheringsett. Report by Pam Wimmer
